This week’s guest on GOD UNPLUGGED is water skiing legend, Kristi Overton Johnson.  Kristi is an 8-time U.S. Masters Champion and a 4-time U.S. Open Women’s Slalom Champion. She has held the world record in women’s slalom since 1992 and has been ranked #1 in the world more times than any other professional women’s slalom competitor in history. But the most amazing thing about her career is that she has achieved much of her success despite the presence of a birth defect that limits her ability to walk and run without pain.    During each 30-minute episode of GOD UNPLUGGED I’ll chat with famous authors, actors, athletes and recording artists […]

Winds of Change

It seems like life is one transition after another.  Some are obviously life-changing:  giving birth, the death of a loved one, or a walk down the aisle.  Others seem less significant, but in actuality are highly impacting. This fall our eldest daughter moved away to attend college about seven hours from home. I knew it would be a difficult transition for me because Kaia and I are very close and have always spent a great deal of time together.  Once she was in school I would rarely see her; it was just too far for a weekend trip home.  So I tried not to think about the day I would […]

What is your favorite Christmas memory?

Our hearts grow tender with childhood memories and love of kindred, and we are better throughout the year for having, in spirit, become a child again at Christmas-time.  ~ Laura Ingalls Wilder Last week I posted an excerpt from my book, My Favorite Christmas. Recording artist and actor Billy Ray Cyrus shared an incredibly moving and poignant holiday memory from when he was a teenager.  If you haven’t had a chance to read it, be sure to take a look.  One aspect of writing this book was very surprising.  While I had no problem getting celebrities to agree to speak with me, many of them had trouble coming up […]

Billy Ray Cyrus’ Favorite Christmas

Here’s an excerpt from my latest book, My Favorite Christmas, which features fond holiday memories of famous athletes, recording artists and authors. Billy Ray Cyrus   Multi-platinum selling recording artist, Billy Ray Cyrus, is best known for his 1992 smash hit, “Achy Breaky Heart.” Also an actor, Cyrus played the lead role on PaxTV’s (now i Television) long-running hit series, “Doc”. He currently stars with his daughter Miley on Disney Channel’s hit series “Hannah Montana” (www.billyraycyrus.com). My mom and dad got divorced when I was 5. Two years later my mom sold a lot of her belongings just so we’d be able to pay our bills, keep our house and have some […]

What are you thankful for?

I’m kind of considered the gourmet cook in our family. What can I say; I really enjoy cooking (my kids were eating epicurean delights from the time they were wee babies). So when it comes time for family holidays I like to show off a little. No simple dishes for me; the harder the recipe is the better I like it. Several years ago we had 25 people over to our home for Thanksgiving dinner. I felt good about my preparation; it was Thanksgiving morning and I had already made two fancy desserts, stuffing, a mashed potato casserole, green bean casserole, a mixed green salad with cranberry vinaigrette, homemade bread, […]
